Perhaps the oddest second set this side of 76 or 74 for that matter- Last week I mentioned another outstanding Dark Star played in CLeveland NOT on 12-6-73.

The set list as given by deadbase for this 11/20/78 show:

2: Jam> Drumz> Jam> Jack A Roe, Playin> Shakedown> World To Give> Playin> Around

And yes, it is as good as it sounds- I would like to hear if there are any other second sets like this after this date- That would be a challenge- I know there are two shows out there- one has the 2nd set start with drums- the other, space- but then they become more conventional- but Playin into Shakedown into If I had?

The Jam-Jack-a-Roe reminds me of how an el paso or big river would flow out of a 2nd set jam 72-74

The 11-20-78 second set started that way because Weir wasn't onstage for the start of the set...

78 was perhaps the most redundant year in the Dead...78 is chock loaded with great shows, though...11-20 is a good one...nice second set jam...If I Had The World To Give is played better at 10-17-1978 (From Egypt with Love)...but is still nice...

the 11/20/78 show is part of the Sick Bits Series Vol-16a
A very nice matrix. If anyone would like it, I can send it to 2 of you's now ...and more after Christmas.
(at present i have @ $25 to my name, I'm glad there are no "how much do you earn" threads here- (lol-kinda)

Off topic here Dire, but I'm assuming you caught the craziness in Boston yesterday. Good lord, if this guy does anything short of curing cancer and parting the Red Sea it'll be a let down. I do like his nickname though. Let's hope he's half as talented as everyone thinks.
Per my post earlier this AM, just wanted to check and see if you had the Princeton show, if not, let me know (wink, wink).

craziness might even be an understatement after seeing some of the tv coverage. talk about some serious pressure on a guy before he throws his first major league pitch. hope he has the intestinal fortitude the brass and scouts say he has. i'm sure looking forward to the start of the season - and it's four stinkin months away :(

Schilling, Beckett, Papelbon, Dice-K, Wakefield - enough to make a grown man weep with joy (or wail in agony if it doens't work out).

and, no i don't have that ivy show ;);) set list looks mighty sweet and from your comments, i'll assume it IS mighty sweet.

Sweet? Some may so, including me. The Good Lovin' is Pig being, well, Pig; lots of Pony Rides and selling off the Brooklyn Bridge. I'm thinkin' it'll be a Nightfly/Princeton/Player to be Named Later Christmas at your house. Be sure to leave out some milk and cookies.

Yes, I think this is just grand! There are very few 'WORLD TO GIVE's out there and this entire set just breaks with routine!

Last time they played IIHTWTG. I really like that song. I was steered away from this show by the "critics". I'm glad you brought it up 'cause I've been finding lots of shows lately that have that X factor that aren't mentioned alot. BTW - I've always felt that was about 5/8 - I love the show for its technical beauty but doesn't make me jump up and act like I have Turrets.

You read my mind exactly about 5/8/77- the entire first set is studio perfect and "safe" - almost sterile. The second set loosens up a bit (Sorry bit disco Dancin in the Streets doesn't do it for me- too many good versions 68-70)and hits its mark at the Dew like I said- a top 3 version for me.
